I love soup. Not all the time, but definitely when it's cold outside, and considering we live on the northern CA coast where "summer" means I'm still in jeans, long sleeves, a wool sweater, and jacket - it's still soup weather. You'd think that with the combination of my love of soup, cooking, and owning of a crock pot, I'd make my own - but you'd be wrong. I'm too lazy, never seem to have all of the ingredients, and when you make homemade soup you end up with way more than you can eat. Sometimes I make Matzo Ball soup, and I've made a killer tomato basil, but for the most part I buy canned - which is actually what this post is about. Should you be in the mood for split pea, and shoud you be looking at the grocery store cans, DO NOT be mislead by Anderson's Split Pea Soup. Yes, they are the split pea soup people in CA (you see adds for their famous restaurant all up and down the CA coast), but I think they need to look into another line of work. The texture is ok, but the spices are boring and it has the consistency of baby food. And did I mention that it held the "can shape" until I mushed it down in the bowl? The Annie's Organics instant soup is better. Better yet, I think I'll just make my own next time.
So, anyone have any good split pea soup recipes?
Despite the fact that I am Canadian: Nope. But I would like to see more from this blog than soup stories. How about soup and cracker stories, or gossip involving soup and crackers.
