For my readers who do not know: I love Trader Joe's. I love their food, I love their beer, their cheese, and their wine.
My recommendations for tonight:
1- Old Moon Old Vines Zin is outstanding (and $5 a bottle). I also love my husband who when I asked "Should we put wine in the pasta sauce?" answered, "Definitely. And let's break out the expensive $5 bottle instead of the Shaw this time."
Honestly though, nice body, not as heavy as most Zins, but also less fruity, with a better finish and a better blend.
2-Trader Joe's (relabeled Gordon Biersch) Winterbrew. 7.5% sweet dopplebock and very good for the $5/6 pack price.
3-Trader Joes special ale that comes in a wine bottle with a champagne top, 2006 Vintage Ale. This is bottled and produced by unibroue, and outstanding Canadian brewery that brews in the Belgian style. More flavorful than a Chamay, but with all the complexity. This is basically unibroue's "Terrible" (pronounce it French-style) rebottled at and $5 a 750 ml rather than 10. It's very good, very strong (9% I think) and outstanding with burgers, nachos, or a good, rare, steak. (then again, what isn't?)
This is what we call a practical post, K. Nicely done.
