A good friend of mine from the college years, with whom I've kept in-6mo-updates touch, announced her divorce today. Apparently it was finalized in November after 1.5 years of marriage. Sadly, it's not exactly a shock (the wedding was actually a more surprising decision), but it is the first one of my friends from a younger part of my life to get divorced.
We're not close, it doesn't affect me in a way that makes me look deeply at my relationship and wonder, or anything like that. I guess I'm just recording it as one of those life's firsts.
That's like when my 6mo update friend had a baby a year and a half ago (at age 25). Didn't really make me re-think my life one bit (except to be happier perhaps that I'm going to school and not changing diapers). It wasn't much of a surprise--in high school we all predicted she would be the first married and first to have a kid.
ReplyDeleteWhat DID surprise me was when my first long-term boyfriend (first 2 years of college) got married at 24 and they had a kid at 25. Mostly this surprised me because his bipolar depression, first grade bathroom humor, combined with a Vanilla Ice obsession convinced me no one in their right mind would ever marry him. Can you imagine what THAT kid will turn out like?!
