the more I read the more stupid I feel

From my recent German literary/linguistic analysis of street ballads:
"In the discursive ballad the hierarchical ordering of semantic elements according to isotopic concrete examples and generalizing statements and instruction in the thematic progression of type 3 combines the everyday world of experience with didactic elements in a more plausible way."

I need a dictionary... and to have training in literary analysis/criticism and basic linguistics (and art theory, and music history and theory, and.. and... and....)

  1. Dude, you shouldn't feel stupid. Whoever wrote that just doesn't know how to write clear English prose.

    I agree.

[and, by the way, it sucks that blogspot comments don't recognize blockquote as a html tag :(]

  3. I think I agree, but I couldn't tell you exactly what I agree with :)

  4. and to Kungfu, yeah, she's German and this is the translation. I mean, lit analysis can be turgid as it is, but I bet that in the original German the whole sentence is like 3 words long.
