Today I got to wander into the world of the private investigator.
Case: Husband's lost cell phone
When: sometime on Sunday morning
Where: Santa Cruz, Ca - exact location unknown
Evidence:
We notice the missing cell phone w/in a few hours, but figured it was just somewhere in the house/car. When we hadn't found it after a full day, we realized it might have made a break for it and run off on its own. After checking our online minute usage we determined that the phone had indeed run away and was talking to some one in Dallas.
Action:
Initial attempt to text and call the lost phone were unanswered. Drastic step of calling the numbers listed on bill taken. Success! Sort of... I spent the morning talking to an extended network of spanish-speaking sisters between CA and Dallas. Someone's husband had found and adopted our phone. After a choppy and painful conversation in spanish with woman in TX, she called me back and told me that she was able to pressure her sister to reveal that their younger sister's husband had in fact called them from a new SC number that matched ours.
After several more phone calls in pretty painful spanish (it's been so long since I've actually had to have a conversation with someone) I got ahold of the wife of the guy who picked up our phone and she said she was more than happy to give it back and that she was sorry for the confusion.
Result:
Phone is back in our custody. Hurrah!
Well played, K.
