Knittin' in the Kitchen

I'm sitting on my kitchen stool working on my latest knitting project (Yogini Bolero in navy) while a group of locals who I know and love are trudging through sewage and slaying crocodiles in my living room. I normally knit once a week at Beetlegirl's apt while kungfuramone joinsLl and some other friends to slay dragons and fight out of dungeons in the comforts of our living room. Meanwhile, at B', she sews/cuts/felts, I knit, and we work our way through episodes of the X-files. We've had a jolly good time reliving the good (biohazards and diseases from outer space), the bad (they can't do the occult, and Gillian Anderson does not look good in high neck blouses and tapered-leg pants), and the ugly (leech boy), and had both forgotten what it was like to follow a TV series that averaged 22-24 episodes in a season.

Because I'm leaving for a conference at UC Davis on Friday I had to cancel my crafting evening for the week. Although this evening is severely lacking in estrogen bonding time, the commentary coming from the couches does a pretty fair job of providing entertainment.

Work on my diss is very slow going - I'm constantly distracted by my TA assignment, my conference paper/presentation, and the more enjoyable aspects of life in general. Same old, same old: too much to read, takes too long, too many copious notes. I'm looking forward to this conference but I really hope that I can re-focus and plow through some of my secondary sources when I return.
