New Home

We did it again, we moved. Although in the past I've liked moving, adding the kiddo significantly racheted up the moving stress. Fortunately, we had good help from friends, my in-laws, and my mom. Honestly, without their help it would have been a disaster.

We are sad to vacate our very sleek mid-century modern, but happy to move into a warm, southwest style home. We've traded concrete floors for baked terracotta tile, cool white walls for a soft beige with brown accents. Gone is the wall of south facing window, in exchange we have gorgeous skylights and lofted ceilings. I was really bummed to leave our very slick modern kitchen, but our new cooking space is wonderful. The old space looked beautiful, but became very crowded once there were actual people in the kitchen. Little things, like no cabinets convenient to the dishwasher, left me wondering if the person who redesigned the space actually considered cooking in it. Our new kitchen, on the other hand, was clearly redesigned by a chef. The workflow is fantastic and we easily had 3 people prepping, cooking, and cleaning in a space about 30% smaller than our previous kitchen.

The biggest change is 4 bedrooms and a brilliant back yard. Oddly, the square footage of both places is about the same, this house is just divided differently. This means we have a master, office, nursery, and dedicated guest room (which, oddly, reminds me of some of my scripps dorm rooms). The outside is one of our new favorite spaces. The property is wedge shaped so we have an ample back yard, lovely covered patio space, and an irrigate, raised garden.

Nearly everything is unpacked. Bucket has adjusted seamlessly, and Oona felt right at home as soon as we unrolled her favorite carpet, filled with her favorite stinks no doubt.

We know we'll be here for at least a year, possibly as many as 3 or 4.
