Clawing my way back to the blogosphere

I said it would be a while, and it was. I've been busy - not my my dissertation unfortunately, but I think I'm writing that off as a loss for the rest of the quarter. I'd fill you in on what I've been doing, but it's all boring so I'm not going to bore you with the details.

Getting to the point - I made a new recipe! I love Thai food and have been searching for good, clearly explained Thai cooking. Tonight I tried Basil Eggplant and it was amazing and on the level of what I would expect at a good Thai restaurant. Very simple with clear directions. I'm looking forward to trying their noodle dishes next ( I have a noodle fetish - Pad Ke Mow.. yum).

I'm also in experimental kitchen mode. I've made a number of cookies recently, but all different versions of the same recipe in the quest to find a perfect recipe. Now I'm going to start experimenting. I was recently ruminating on the wonderfulness of malted milk balls - Whoppers, my favorite supermarket candy - and realized that I could try to make a Whopper cookie by adding malted milk t the holy trinity of brown sugar, butter and chocolate. There are recipes out there for chocolate chocolate malted cookies, and chocolate chip cookies with whoppers on top, but I want a malted cookie with melted chocolate. I'm going to make a few tests this weekend and I'll let you know how they turn out.

In non food-related news, my glasses prescription didn't change this year! This is on the order of finding out you lost 10 lbs. Unfortunately since I left my glasses at school and they were stolen (yeah, I feel like I'm 6 again...) I still have to by glasses (lowest estimate through Costco is $200 for crappy frames, $250 at EyeQ for nice frames), plus the additional $200 I have to spend every year on contacts. Not so happy to be spending $500 - which I would rather spend on a vacation with L - on my eyes, but I sort of don't have a choice. It's too bad I can't get one of my scrips written in his name to use his insurance. Damn expensive eyes, damn bad vision.
