1) Photographic memory combined with speed reading with full retention-
4, 400 page books by Monday? No problem! I have to memorize French grammar and a full dictionary of necessary words and phrases? It'll be done by supper. The ability to speed up and fully retain the sheer amount of information we try to squeeze into to 10% of our brains we use would be priceless. It doesn't mean we could necessarily think more deeply or write any faster, but the memory upgrade would be a big help.
2) Flying or some sort of internal teleportation over space - need to go check out an archive in Paris? Plane tickets cost $1500? You'd have to figure out how to lug all of your grad gear (laptop, cell phone, digital camera for archive work), but you'd avoid the airport, save money, and probably get some shits and giggles out of scaring the crap out of people.
3) The ability to fend off cold and flu viruses. Bacterial infections I'm ok with. Take some antibiotics or sulfa meds and you'll be ok. It's the stupid rhinoviruses that lodge themselves in our poorly designed sinus cavity that just kill me. I've been sick for a week. I was better yesterday, now worse today. Focus is gone, my heartrate skyrockets while walking around campus, and it feels like my left eye ball is about to pop out of my head. If we could develop magic immune systems that would prevent us from catching the colds that all of the lovely students bring back with them it would make me a very happy camper.
Hmmm... sorry to hear you're sick. :(
ReplyDeleteMy magic remedy for fending off colds or at least weakening them:
1 - stuff your body full of vitamins. This includes extra vegetables in the diet in addition to tablet and fizzy vitamins (like airborne).
2 - drink only water, orange juice, herbal tea. NO COFFEE. Yes, that one sucks but it works. Seriously.
3 - cut out the sugar. Some sugars in fruits is OK, but I have found that when I keep eating chocolate or other sweet things I just get sicker or stay sick longer.
So basically, you have to stop ingesting two things you like. I never totally cut out exercise, I still run or bike a bit but everything is taken down a notch.
Hope you feel better soon! Also, can I have your banana bread and oatmeal cookie recipes, pretty please? :)
sure! on the recipes, I'm sorry I keep forgetting... I'll do it tonight or tomorrow
