I just found my two favourite reasons to keep eating meat. Courtesy of a USA Today opinion, I give you:
•As a country boy in South Dakota, while in high school I worked in an old-fashioned "butcher shop." Owner Tom Rosser paid me $1 a week and all the salami I could eat. He also taught me how to cook a steak rare.
•In Europe in WW II, we all knew that that Nazi nut Adolf Hitler was a vegetarian.

In all seriousness, although I tend to eat a lot of non-meat dishes (cheap grad student, it happens), I could never give up meat entirely. I like it too much. There is just nothing like a New Orleans BBQ shrimp, or a thick fillet mignon that's just slightly more than seared on the outside with asparagus, hollandaise, and a bottle of red wine.
I'm also convinced that meat-eating contributes to one's killer instinct. As burgeoning scholars, we rely on our killer instincts to, you know, kill people.
