Theater and more

My dad and Cindy gave Luke and I a generous anniversary gift. We used part of it to attend, and eat our way through, the Gilroy Garlic Festival. We used the rest of it tonight to see Shakespeare Santa Cruz' production of King Lear. The stage used was an outdoor auditorium with open, on the ground seating. We set up a picnic blanket, popped open a bottle of wine, and enjoyed the show. Overall the production was very good. Edmund and Edgar were particularly well played, and the lighting and set choices were stupendous. Although I liked the actor who played the fool, I on the whole did not like the directorial choices regarding the fool. In previous productions the fool in Lear is a dependent, a little crazy, and generally prophetic. The fool in this production was more of an equal to Lear, the relationship did not carry the same weight as in other productions I've seen. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable experience, and one we will have to repeat.

We are preparing to leave for NJ on Sat. We'll be at LBI until the 19th, and then I'll be in DC from 21-4. I will be staying with the lovely Rita Garcia, and am eternally grateful for her hospitality.
