Back to School

We formally kicked off the 2010-2011 school term. It started with a rough morning for me (WAY too much wine at the GSA orientation - haven't been hungover like that in years. Oy!) I am a Graduate Student Research for the Institute for Humanities Research, which means I'll be doing database maintenance, maintaining their plethora of Wordpress webpages, and occasionally being the face of IHR at a variety of talks and colloquia. I work with a wonderful group of people and I'm looking forward to the networking, the skill development, and not having to TA. I love my students, but I love them too much and my own work not enough.

Also on the docket is :

  • a conference presentation the last weekend in Oct on a diss chapter I haven't written yet... yeah...
  • 2 diss writing fellowship apps . Was 5 apps, but 2 require chapter submissions with the application (see bullet point #1), and a 3rd was cancelled due to economic hardships
  • massive diss-finishing and defense-rocking party for L once he finishes
  • packing and moving to Tucson

It's going to be a busy fall.

No 'poo Update
So far, not crazy greasy period. I am still going every other day washes with Baking Soda dissolved in hot water and a vinegar rinse. I added honey and olive oil to the vinegar - next time I'll also add steeped rosemary water. Still like the process and my hair is feeling less dry. I had 2 great hair days in a row (hair was soft, not frizzy or stringy, held the style all day w/o being greasy - yay!) Today I tried a water wash and vinegar rinse... yeah, it's in a ponytail until I get a hold of some baking soda. But so far I'm still happy I switched to this new method. For those keeping track, the last time I used shampoo to wash my hair was 3 full weeks ago.

  2. Yup. L got a job with the National Solar Observatory in Tucson. I posted about it a while ago but then he asked me to take it down until he signed the paper work, I should probably repost the original post to fill in those who didn't read it in the 12 hours it was up....
