A few weeks ago L and I suffered the great tragedy of breaking our coffee carafe. It took us a while to finally get around to replacing it carafe (had to be ordered from amazon.com) and they were a few sad coffee-less days.
We were using a DeLonghi DC76T coffee machine that we received as a wedding gift. I had done some research before setting up our registry, and this one was supposed to be top notch. DeLonghi got consistently good reviews on the interwebs, so i figured it would be good. The broken carafe was our own fault, but the coffee maker had a few issues. The teflon on the non-stick warmer started peeling off about a year after we got it (a week or so after the warranty expired). The coffee was good overall, but we were plagued by a sludge at the bottom of each pot. This may be a result of our grinder, although we're using a medium grind. Finally, yesterday morning, the spring loaded door shot open and a piece of black plastic flew off. Sans duct tape, the door would never close again.
Once again, we were coffee-less.
This time, we went to Costco and bought a $30 programmable Mr. Coffee that has a digitized analog clock on the front and sort of looks you could set it as a bomb timer. The carafe feels sturdier and we hope this one lasts more than 2 years, or at least breaks before the warranty wears out.
Oh, it is ALL about Mr. Coffee. He is a good guy. Also, I appreciate that you're making me feel better about not having a fancy-schmancy coffee machine; our 30-dollar Mr. Coffee has been chugging along for about six years now.
ReplyDeleteI have a Mr. Coffee 4-cup maker that I won at my high school going away party in 1998. I used it hard throughout college and when I moved back to DC. It will be celebrating it's 10th anniversary next year, though it is currently sitting in storage. 10 years for a little $15 4-cupper... how impressive is that?
ReplyDeleteapparently my English is getting shittier by the day here.. "its" 10th anniversary.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that your beloved coffeemaker passed away. I'm sure it had a good life and that it served you well, and I'm glad you have welcomed a new coffeemaker into your home. Best of luck with Mr. Coffee!
